MEERUT: The Meerut Cantonment Board (MCB) will be setting up a small prototype of its new solid waste management system inside Gandhi Bagh. MCB claims that the new system, which will be tried out for a few months on a small scale, is more efficient and economical than the existing one.
The new system is said to be more effective in processing waste.
“Our engineering department has been working on this for some time. We want to be among the cleanest cantonments in the country for which we will have to make some major changes. The earlier solid waste management system was outdated and extremely inefficient. We are designing a new mechanism by learning from best practices around the world,” said MA Zafar, media officer, MCB.
He added, “Our engineering department has built a smaller prototype of the new system to see how it works. We will install it in Gandhi Bagh in a few days to see how effective it is. Gandhi Bagh is a huge area and is ideal for this kind of an experiment. After reviewing its working, we will make amendments if required.”
